I have seen boxcars with one end or another folded like an accordion. A slowly moving switch engine can tear a six foot gash in the side of a semitrailer before the engineer can stop it.
I have a book on train wrecks. Perhaps I can dig it out, determine the author and title, and send that info on to you. What is really phenomenal is the telescoping of cars in some disasters, one car being shoved inside another like the sections of a spy-glass.
